Northbuild's 'Harmony' site at Runaway Bay downed tools on Friday to raise money for a valued co-worker who suffered a debilitating stroke recently.
Malcolm ‘Stumpy’ Hunter, a steel fixer for Brett Lewis Steel fixing, had worked on the Helensvale Central and Harmony Broadwater developments for 8 months when he suffered a stroke at home recently. In a double tragedy for the family, his partner received serious spinal injuries, when she was involved in a car accident on the way to visit Stumpy in hospital.
Project Manager, Kerry Weale, and Stumpy's boss, Brett Lewis, rallied their troops to support a BBQ and Monster Raffle, provided by Northbuild's site staff. A Yamaha PW50 and a pocket rocket motorcycle were raffled off, as well as an Esky full of drinks.
The pocket rocket went to Spider of T&M Bricklaying and Derek from GMG Stone will be putting the PeeWee 50 to good use.
Stumpy put in a guest appearance and drew the raffle to over 100 subcontractors and site staff gathered for the BBQ on Friday.
The overwhelming support of workers was a testament to Aussie mateship, and, at last count, there looked like being around $5000 going to Stumpy and his partner. It was a truly unforgettable afternoon.
A big thank you must go to Kerry Weale and Brett Lewis for the organising, plus all the workers who managed the drinks and BBQ, sold raffle tickets, and especially all those generous mates who donated their hard earned cash. We wish Stumpy and his partner a speedy recovery.
