The Glennie School Senior Science Centre

The Glennie School Senior Science Centre

Completion Date:  January 2016

Architect:  Burling Brown Architects

Structural Civil & Hydraulic Engineers:  Kehoe Myers Consulting Engineers

The new Senior Science Centre for The Glennie School, in Toowoomba, was Northbuild’s second in two years for this client and was the largest project undertaken to date by the school.

This building was succesfully completed after working closely with the client and architect over 10 months to assist with matters of design and buildability and to meet the client’s limited project budget.

The new Science Centre, totaling 3,438m2, joins seamlessly to the existing buildings via the two upper floor verandas.  These upper floors contain 6 science laboratories, two preparation rooms, storage, 2 x staff rooms and amenities.

The basement level consists of multi-purpose storage areas, lunchroom, archive & biology store rooms. The building is serviced across the three floors by a lift and three sets of stairs.

The basement also contains a Tank Room that houses three 22,500 litre water tanks, two for rainwater storage for reuse via pump and one a temporary stormwater retention.

The outcome is the school now arguably has the best designed & quality science facilities in the region contained within this new modern but tasteful building.
