Toowoomba Hospital

Toowoomba Hospital Fountain House 1 Reburbishment

Completed:  January 2016

Client:  Qld State Government

Architect:  Sims White Architects

Engineers:  Kehoe Myers

This project for the Toowoomba Hospital entailed the refurbishment of 572m2 of Fountain House 1 into the new AODS (alcohol & other drugs) facilities and the construction of a new external lift shaft to provide suitable access between floors.

The building remained occupied on the Ground floor and a part of the first floor whilst the refurbishment works took place.

Level 2 consists of office areas including Clinical & Allied Nurse Hubs, doctors & team leader offices, lunchroom & amenities. Level 1 is the reception area and waiting room along with 8 consulting rooms, meeting/conference room and amenities. Both floors connect to the new lift accessed via link bridges across to the free standing lift shaft. At Ground Floor the lift is accessed from the existing entry on the western elevation of the building.

The works included new windows and an external repaint along with new gutters & downpipes and repairs only to the existing roof.

Old buildings provide regular surprises along the way and we worked with Sims White and Building & Asset Services to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. These included blocked sewers & poor earthing, low water pressure and fire rating issues.

The project was secured via a select Tender process and was delivered via a Construct Only Hard Dollar contract.
